Jubilee Military Wheels and Wings Show, incorporating Battlegroup
North. |
|
Our Yorkshire MVT Show, one of the first of the season, is being held slightly later this year at the end of May which is not a Bank Holiday. The setting is, once more, the excellent Yorkshire Air Museum, Elvington, and for the first time will include the huge adjacent runway and surroundings. |
|
This is the ideal venue to display your vehicle to best advantage and is extremely popular, so if you want to come along I would encourage you to book in as early as possible to be sure of getting a space for what promises to be one of the best shows of the year. It is, without doubt, the event and place to see the largest gathering of military vehicles in the North of England. Please note that next year we will be changing the show’s name to Battlegroup North. |

| During the War H.M. the Queen drove an Austin K2 ambulance and worked on Austin Tillies when she, as Princess Elizabeth, was in the ATS. So, as part of the Jubilee Celebrations, we are planning to have the largest gathering of Austin K2 Ambulances and Austin Tillies seen since the War as a special display. Cries of Eeee by gum! I hear, which is local dialect for “I say, how simply marvellous!” | |

Plans are in hand to give the site a fresh new look with a different vehicle layout. One thing you can always rely on within our Area is that there will be several unique vehicles on display as well as some excellent re-enactor collections of equipment and weapons. |
|
These will be spread throughout the site offering you plenty of opportunity to chat with a member of the Home Guard, a Para, US infantry, a British Tommy, or even a Russian or two and discover more about their hobby and the history they represent. Whether you prefer to come ‘dressed to kill’ or as a period civvy you are more than welcome at our very civilised show hosted, of course, by some very friendly Yorkshire folks. |

Prizes for best vehicles in several classes will be awarded over the weekend and a Road Run or two into the beautiful countryside is also planned. |

Meals will be available in the NAAFI building where you can join friends at large round tables and tuck into good value tasty food throughout the day starting with the excellent Full English breakfasts. The NAAFI bar is also the focal point each evening where thirsts can be quenched, and they usually are in some style. If you can pull yourself away from the bar then there is a disco for those with excess energy to burn off. Hawaiian shirts will be the theme. |

Camping is available, but to enhance the Show this has to be in military tents if it is allowed next to military vehicles. Civilian camping will be in a different area this year with more space on the airfield but near the entrance to the show. |

Don’t forget Elvington was a WW2 bomber base, and the Museum is home to an impressive array of planes and related exhibits such as the rear gunner’s turrets. RAF Elvington was home to Halifax Bomber Squadrons during the War and is home to one of only two restored Halifax bombers; named ‘Friday the 13th.’ |

We are usually treated to flypasts by planes of the Battle of Britain Memorial flight over the weekend.
There will also be plenty to see in the main hanger where you will find large war gaming displays and stalls selling scale model kits, books, and collectables.![]() |
You are guaranteed warm Yorkshire hospitality and relaxed atmosphere with plenty to see and do, so get those dates in the diary. Note: MVT code of conduct will apply.
